Star Wars: Legion has no official scale, and its figures stand on 27 mm bases. Press and hobby reviews put them at 28mm to 35mm, about 1:49 to 1:62. The other two Star Wars miniatures games do state a scale. Shatterpoint is 40mm, about 1:43, and X-Wing ships are 1/270, so a 13.4 m X-wing is 49.6 mm (1.95 in) long on the table.
What scale is Star Wars: Legion?
Star Wars: Legion has no official scale: neither Fantasy Flight Games nor Atomic Mass Games has published one. The publisher states only the base size, 27 mm. Press and hobby reviews describe the figures as 28mm to 35mm, which is about 1:49 to 1:62 for a 1.73 m person.
Fantasy Flight gave no scale when it announced Legion in August 2017, or on its product page. Atomic Mass Games, which took over the line in November 2020, lists bases but no scale: its Galactic Empire Starter Set has 37 miniatures and 37 bases of 27 mm.
What the press and reviewers have said, with the ratio each size gives at the 1,730 mm reference:
| Source | What it says | Ratio at 1,730 mm |
|---|---|---|
| Tabletop Gaming, news report at the August 2017 announcement | “28mm-scale” | 1:61.8 |
| Between the Bolter and Me, stormtrooper review, May 2018 | 28mm to 32mm, not heroic scale | 1:54.1 to 1:61.8 |
| Blaine L. Pardoe, Notes From The Bunker, review, August 2018 | 35mm figures | 1:49.4 |
| Chaosbunker, stormtrooper review, December 2025 | 1:48, about 35 mm true scale | 1:48 as stated |
Tabletop Gaming reported its figure before the game was on sale. The three reviews were written with the figures in hand.
To pin your own army to one number, measure a figure you own:
- Pick a trooper sculpted standing upright, not kneeling or crouching.
- Measure from the sole of the foot to the top of the head, in millimeters, without the base.
- Divide 1,730 by that height. The answer is X in 1:X.
The Miniatures Page uses 1,730 mm as the average man’s height in its scale conversions, and the miniature scale calculator uses it as the default. There, pick “Other (type the height)” and type your measurement to get the ratio and the slicer percentage to any other scale.
What scale is Star Wars: Shatterpoint?
Star Wars: Shatterpoint is 40mm scale. Atomic Mass Games’ sculpting director, Marco Segovia, said the studio chose 40mm to capture fine detail while leaving large smooth areas for painters to blend. To the top of the head of a 1.73 m person, 40mm is about 1:43; to the eyes, about 1:40.
Atomic Mass Games does not say whether it measures its 40 mm to the eyes or to the top of the head, so the ratio sits between the two columns below. The Miniatures Page puts the average man at 1,730 mm to the top of the head and 1,610 mm to the eyes.
| Scale | Figure height | Inches | 1.73 m to top of head | 1.61 m to eyes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shatterpoint (40mm) | 40 mm | 1.57 in | 1:43.3 | 1:40.3 |
| 35mm | 35 mm | 1.38 in | 1:49.4 | 1:46 |
| 32mm | 32 mm | 1.26 in | 1:54.1 | 1:50.3 |
| 28mm | 28 mm | 1.10 in | 1:61.8 | 1:57.5 |
The 40 in “40mm” names the figure, not the base. Shatterpoint’s bases also measure 40 mm: the We Don’t Need Their Scum squad pack comes with four of them for its four figures.
What scale is X-Wing?
X-Wing ships are 1/270 scale. Fantasy Flight Games built the ships for standard tournament play at 1/270, from the TIE fighter to the Millennium Falcon. Huge ships for Epic play, starting with the Tantive IV and Rebel transport, use a “relative” scale with no stated ratio. First-edition ships also play in Second Edition through conversion kits.
Divide a ship’s real length by 270 for its length on the table. The lengths below are from the official StarWars.com Databank.
| Ship | Real length | At 1/270 | Inches |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-wing (Rebel Alliance) | 13.4 m | 49.6 mm | 1.95 in |
| T-70 X-wing (Resistance) | 12.48 m | 46.2 mm | 1.82 in |
| TIE fighter | 8.99 m | 33.3 mm | 1.31 in |
| Millennium Falcon | 34.75 m | 128.7 mm | 5.07 in |
The worked figure for the X-wing: 13,400 / 270 = 49.6 mm, and 49.6 / 25.4 = 1.95 in. The official sculpts are not always exact. For the U-wing, Fantasy Flight’s sculptors widened the gap between the engines so the ship would read better at this size, according to StarWars.com.
Atomic Mass Games ended development of X-Wing on 13 June 2024. It said high-quality pre-painted miniatures had become increasingly difficult to produce. A ship the game never released now has to be built or printed at 1/270 to match the rest.
What slicer percentage converts between these scales?
Divide the target scale’s figure height by the source’s and multiply by 100, with uniform scaling on. A 35mm figure printed for Shatterpoint needs 40 / 35 × 100 = 114.29%.
For Legion, the table works from the 28mm, 32mm and 35mm sizes reported above. These are arithmetic, not publisher figures, so pick the column that matches your own measured trooper.
| Move | Legion as 28mm | Legion as 32mm | Legion as 35mm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legion figure into a 28mm game | 100% | 87.5% | 80% |
| Legion figure into Shatterpoint (40mm) | 142.86% | 125% | 114.29% |
| Shatterpoint figure into Legion | 70% | 80% | 87.5% |
The same percentages work for any 28mm, 32mm or 35mm figure. With your own measurement, use 28 / (its height in mm) × 100 to bring a Legion figure to 28mm and 40 / (its height in mm) × 100 to bring it to Shatterpoint.
For an X-Wing ship, type the 1/270 length into the slicer’s size field instead of a percentage. If the file is drawn at real size, the percentage is 100 / 270 = 0.37%. If the file is some other size, divide the target length by the length the slicer shows: an X-wing that shows 200 mm long needs 49.6 / 200 × 100 = 24.8%. The scale calculator does this division and converts a file drawn at a kit ratio such as 1:72 (72 / 270 × 100 = 26.67%).
