Bambu Lab layer height: limits, presets and first layer for every printer
Bambu Lab printers take layers of 20% to 70% of the nozzle: 0.08 to 0.28 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, with a 0.20 mm first layer. Limits and presets per printer.
Bambu Lab printers take layers of 20% to 70% of the nozzle: 0.08 to 0.28 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, with a 0.20 mm first layer. Limits and presets per printer.
Creality Print sets 0.20 mm layers and a 0.20 mm first layer on every Ender-3, K1 and K2 with a 0.4 mm nozzle; its profiles allow 0.08 mm up to 0.20 to 0.36 mm.
Yes: thinner layers shrink the steps on curves and slopes, but 0.08 mm took 2.18 times as long as 0.20 mm in Bambu Lab's test. Filament use barely changes.
Print the first layer about 125% of the nozzle wide: 0.5 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle in Bambu Studio and Prusa profiles. The wider line grips the bed better.
HueForge's default layer height is 0.08 mm, printed on a 0.16 mm first layer at 100% infill. Match both in your slicer or every color swap shifts.
Acceleration (mm/s²) is how fast speed changes; jerk (mm/s) is the speed change allowed instantly at a corner. Junction deviation = 0.4 × jerk² ÷ acceleration.
Use 0.04 to 0.16 mm layers with a 0.2 mm nozzle (0.14 mm max on Bambu Lab). Start at 0.10 mm with a 0.10 mm first layer and 0.22 mm lines.
A 0.4 mm nozzle prints 0.08 to 0.32 mm layers, 0.20 mm by default and for the first layer. Bambu Lab caps it at 0.28 mm; slicers refuse over 0.40 mm.
Use 0.12 to 0.48 mm layers with a 0.6 mm nozzle (0.42 mm max on Bambu Lab), 0.30 mm to start, and a 0.30 mm first layer, no more than 0.39 mm.
Use 0.16 to 0.64 mm layers on a 0.8 mm nozzle, at most 0.56 mm on Bambu Lab. Start at 0.40 mm, with a 0.40 mm first layer and 0.82 to 0.9 mm lines.
PLA prints at 0.20 mm on a 0.4 mm nozzle, with a 0.20 mm first layer. PETG, ABS, ASA and TPU use the same heights; each filament caps the speed.
Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer warn when layer height passes the printer's Max limit, 0.28 mm on a Bambu 0.4 mm nozzle. Slicing stops only above the nozzle size.
Outer wall line width on a 0.4 mm nozzle: 0.42 mm in Bambu Studio, 0.45 mm in PrusaSlicer, 0.40 mm in Cura. Inner wall, top, infill and support too.
Print an FDM lithophane at 0.10 to 0.12 mm layers; about 0.2 mm is the coarsest that still looks right. Plus infill, walls, thickness and speed.
Prusa printers default to 0.20 mm layers on a 0.4 mm nozzle (0.15 mm on the MK3S) and a 0.20 mm first layer. PrusaSlicer presets for every printer and nozzle.
Use 0.05 mm layers on a resin printer. The Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra and Mars 5 Ultra accept 0.01 to 0.2 mm, and thicker layers need longer exposure.
On a 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.15 to 0.20 mm layers test strongest. Thinner layers don't bond better, and 0.30 mm hooks held half the load in CNC Kitchen's test.
Make FDM walls at least 0.8 mm thick and 1.5 mm where you can: 2 and 4 walls on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Wall counts per slicer, resin minimums and walls vs infill.
Layer height is the thickness of each printed layer, set in the slicer. 0.20 mm is standard on a 0.4 mm nozzle, with presets from 0.08 to 0.28 mm.
Select the model, press S and type a percentage in the Scale row with uniform scale ticked, or type a size in mm. Bambu Handy has no scale option.
